Join us for an immersive truffle hunt at Virginia Truffles, where you’ll follow our skilled truffle dog as they track the elusive scent of black Périgord truffles beneath the oak trees. Guests will have the chance to unearth these hidden treasures and capture memorable photos with our four-legged team members.
The 2025–2026 Truffle Hunt season has ended. We look forward to hosting you during the 2026–2027 harvest season!
Our expert guides will introduce you to the art of hunting with a partner dog, digging, and assessing truffle ripeness.
Truffle hunts at Virginia Truffles are only offered during our black Périgord truffle harvest season (Tuber melanosporum), which runs from December through the end of February. Tickets for each season are released in September and often sell quickly due to limited availability.

Welcome
This unique adventure begins at 2:00 PM with a warm welcome around the bonfire, where you’ll enjoy a seasonal beverage and learn about the fascinating world of truffles, including an introduction to the farm and our skilled truffle dogs. Then, the hunt is on!

Taste the Reward
After the hunt, return to the bonfire for a delightful tasting experience featuring truffle hors d’oeuvres paired with a celebratory sparkling beverage. The flavors highlight the rich and earthy essence of the truffle. Our team will also share culinary techniques to help you maximize the flavor of truffles in your own kitchen, with tips on preparation, pairing, and preservation.

Behind the Science
Your experience continues with a behind-the-scenes tour of our lab, where we’ll demonstrate the process of grading, cleaning, and storing fresh truffles. Fresh truffles found during the hunt will be available for purchase at the end of the event.

Important Information
You will be exploring an orchard and the surrounding farm. Please wear appropriate clothing and be prepared for uneven terrain and chilly weather. Boots, hats, and gloves are always recommended.
For the safety of our working dogs, please leave your pets at home.
Children are welcome, but tickets should only be purchased for those who can responsibly participate in all activities, including walking through uneven turf and interacting safely with farm animals.
Please notify us of any dietary restrictions in advance. We will do our best to accommodate requests.
Alcoholic beverages are only available to guests 21 years of age and older in accordance with Virginia law.
Our Hunt Policy
All reservations must be paid upfront.
Post hunt, truffle found is available for sale to attendees.
In the case of inclement weather, alternate hunt dates or a refund will be made available.
Finally, a full refund, minus processing fees, will be available as long as the cancellation request is given 7 days prior to a scheduled hunt. A 50% refund will be given for any cancellation prior to 48 hours. This 48-hour courtesy allows us to fill your hunt slot. No refund is given for any cancellation after 48-hours prior to hunt.
